As dawn breaks across the horizon, you awaken with a spring in your step. You know that this Saturday will be special in a unique way! You wonder about the guest presenter. Will they be as amazing as I've heard? Will I feel a connection with their music like I do with that of my favorite instructors?
You think about these questions and more. But as you pick out your favorite Zumba outfit for the masterclass, you are sure of one thing: it will be an experience to remember!
If you have been taking Zumba classes for a while, you’ve probably heard of a Zumba Masterclass. Many have heard this term, yet there is some confusion surrounding these events. So let’s tackle the top 5 questions about Zumba Masterclasses—which will help you determine whether or not to attend them!
Question #1: What is a Zumba Masterclass?
I hear this question a lot, so let’s talk about it! A Zumba Masterclass is an event Zumba class featuring one or more guest presenters. The presenters are famous for delivering showstopper Zumba classes. Often masterclass presenters tour their State, country, or even the world to teach their event classes.
Someone doesn’t have to be famous in the Zumba world to lead a masterclass. Any licensed Zumba instructor who has mastered the art of teaching Zumba can do a masterclass. However, those who lead masterclasses are typically famous at least at the local level.
Question #2: Are Zumba Masterclasses just for instructors?
Not at all! Zumba Masterclasses are open to ALL—and Zumba students are the people who attend these events most! Instructors go as well, but we really need students to come. In the same way a Zumba class would not be the same without students, a masterclass (event Zumba class) would not be the same without the students also!
Question #3: Do I need to be an advanced Zumba student to take a Zumba Masterclass?
Absolutely not. Masterclass (MC) presenters are famous for teaching classes that connect with their audience. They are used to teaching students of all experience levels, and they are pros at making sure students feel successful. So whether you have been taking Zumba for ten years or it is your very first time, you are going to have a blast!
Question #4: Why does a Zumba Masterclass cost more than a standard Zumba class?
The reason a masterclass price may be higher is typically one of two reasons:
(1) The presenter is famous enough to where they are in high demand, and the demand for their class means a higher price to secure an event with them. Think about a concert: it is going to cost more to see Lindsey Stirling in concert than it would cost to see a local violinist perform downtown. It doesn’t mean one is more talented than the other—it simply reflects a difference in demand because one is more famous than the other.
(2) the masterclass is a fundraiser for a cause (e.g., helping families in need, fighting child trafficking, fundraising for a charity or business like Island Time that benefits the community, etc.). I have seen so many wonderful causes supported by masterclasses over the years. And my heart is always moved to support a great cause.
Question #5: What can I get from a Zumba Masterclass that’s different from a regular Zumba class?
A showstopper Zumba experience that will be unforgettable. Whether you are attending a smaller masterclass at Island Time with 15-40 people or a massive one with 200+ people, you will find that there is a special energy in the room when Zumba people come together for an event class. With instructors and students in the building, along with raffles, Zumba wear for sale, and even theme decorations at some events, it is a special time! As a Zumba student, you will also find that the presenter will teach you something—either through dance or by interacting with you—that you will take with you for the rest of your Zumba student career. To me, that alone is worth coming!
Conclusion
A Zumba Masterclass is an incredible experience for everyone, from the seasoned Zumba student to the person who has never taken Zumba a day in their life! An MC costs a bit more than a regular class because it is an event; however, the price is worth the experience. In the case of fundraisers, it is worthy of the cause for which money is raised.
